World Wind (Wiki), developed by NASA Ames Research Center, "lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really there."
World Wind can overlay weather and national disaster information, zoom to street level via aerial photos or fly over topographic features in 3D.
Other virtual globes: TerraServer, Google Earth and MSN Virtual Earth
Unfortunately, World Wind software is only available for Windows OS. Unlike Google Earth, NASA World Wind is open source.
