Atlas of the Cryosphere

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC)'s Atlas of the Cryosphere (nsidc.org/data/atlas) allows you to dynamically map the Earth's frozen regions. Choose either Northern or Southern Hemisphere and view:

• Snow cover
• Sea ice extent and concentration
• Glaciers
• Permafrost
• Other components of the Earth's cryosphere

Zoom in to a specific region and overlay country borders, major cities, and other geographic information. It is also a useful tool for science and education efforts surrounding the International Polar Year (IPY) (2007-2008).

Maps and data sources contained in the Atlas of the Cryosphere are accessible via the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Map Service (WMS), Web Feature Service (WFS), and Web Coverage Service (WCS). These international specifications provide a framework for sharing maps and geospatial data over the internet.

Chemical Information Sources Wiki

Created from over 25 years of coursework, Professor Wiggins (now retired), of Indiana University's School of Informatics, has developed the Chemical Information Sources Wiki (cheminfo.informatics.indiana.edu/cicc/cis), a comprehensive "guide to the many sources of reference materials available for those with questions related to chemistry."

Topics include:

• How and Where to Start
• How and Where to Search
  
  • General
  • Specialized Sources
• Communication in Chemistry
• Chemical History, Biography, Directories, and Industry Sources
• Careers in Chemistry

The materials are also used in conjunction with the CHEMINFO, Chemical Information Sources web site.
