UPDATE: During mandatory telework, we will renew ILL items currently checked out. We accept article and book chapter copy requests. We disabled the book loan request form because the library cannot obtain physical items now. Most libraries do not provide ebooks via interlibrary loan, but if you need one, please send an email with your request to ILL staff.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service of the Boulder Labs Library that provides copies of journal/conference articles and book chapters, plus loans of books and other material from libraries worldwide, as well as from the Boulder Labs Library. You can contact ILL staff at either BoulderLabs.ILL@noaa.gov or (303) 497-5569. Click the button below to start your ILL request.
If you are unable to access your account, or if you forgot your password, please follow these steps:
Anyone affiliated with Boulder Labs is eligible to make ILL requests. He or she need only to bring his or her CAC badge to a Library location in order to register.
Books, book chapters, journal articles, conference papers, technical reports, theses, DVDs, CDs, VHS, and audiocassettes are all available for request. While technical reports and textbooks are eligible, they can be difficult to obtain. The Library will help to locate lenders for these items. However, if a lender cannot be found, then the Library will provide information, when available, on how the requestor may purchase the item using lab funds.
Supplementary Material/Data If there is any supplementary material (or data) that accompanies an article that would like to be requested, enter the information in the comments section of the request.
Items for Personal Use: Materials requested should be for agency research purposes only. If you need an item for personal use, use your local public library.
Standards: For NTIA and NOAA employees, some standards can be obtained but most require payment to a commercial provider above the Library's $35 limit. For NIST employees, email your request to the Standards Coordination Office. (Only employees with "NIST" in the email address can receive standards this way.)
The Library does not purchase patents. Library staff will try to locate patent information including pricing and purchasing sources. Many patents, however, are freely available in full-text online from the following sources:
Check these resources prior to submitting patent requests to the Library.
The Library does not charge users. However, if an item requires a fee of more than $35, the Library will send you information on how to order the item using lab funds.
The list below includes some of the statuses you may see:
Under “Request Details”, click on the “Renew” button next to the item listed in your ILL account. If lending library does not give you more time, click "Copy" and we will send a new request to another library. To cancel a request click the “Cancel” button.
Delivery Method: You will receive an email letting you know when an article is available for download. You can access it from your ILL account via "Available to view." You can view or download the PDF up to five times. For loans of materials, you will receive an email notifying you that the item is available for pick up at your preferred pick up location, either Main [Bldg 1, Rm 1200] or Branch [DSRC 2C407] Libraries.
Average Delivery Time: Libraries usually deliver an article copy request within one to two workdays. Depending on the lending library and item availability, a loan request may take from three to seven days.
Rush Request: If you need an item by a specific date sooner than 30 days, or if you need an item urgently, please submit your request, with a message in the Comments box, a "Need by date", and contact a Library staff member at BoulderLabs.Ref@noaa.gov or 303.497.3271.
Due Date: The due date is printed on the item's label. Most libraries allow one renewal. Many university libraries allow for three months use with no renewals.
Incorrect/Poor Quality PDF: If a PDF is illegible, missing pages, or the wrong item, contact Library staff as soon as possible. In order to ensure you receive your article copy as quickly as possible, our system settings enable most lending libraries to send the item directly to you. Boulder Labs Library rarely views the document before you are notified.
Lost/Damaged ILL Material: The lending library may require a replacement if an item is damaged. If an item is lost, the Boulder Labs Library will ask that you to find a replacement copy.
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research" (fair use). If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. Boulder Labs Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
Thank you for following these procedures; they will ensure that you receive the best possible service.
